Jazz is Peace: honoring Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn * May 11th * doors 6:30 pm, show at 7 pm * $15-30
The program will explore the music and personal and working relationship of Duke and "Strays", featuring well known classics (Take The A Train, the Ellington Orchestra's theme song, written by Billy Strayhorn) and beautiful and evocative lesser known works. Duke's composing is considered unique for his practice of writing for the specific individuals in his ensemble. Trombonist/arranger James Zeller is working with the same approach in arranging music for this event. The show will also feature (or so it is rumored) highlighted swing dancers and a special new composition for the occasion honoring Duke and Strayhorn.
